Hon. Ricketts-Hagan Expresses Concern About 2022 Budget Confusion

Honorable Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South in the Central Region, has expressed concern about the chaos that characterized the approval of the 2022 Budget.

A delay in budget approval, according to the former Deputy Finance Minister, may not bode well for the country.

As a result, he has urged both parties in the House to reach an agreement in order to approve the 2022 budget.

As a result, he advised the two sides of the house to work together to pass the budget.

“I pray and hope that when we return to the House on Tuesday [November 30, 2021], instead of coming to be at each other’s throats or taking on the Speaker, we will instead look at how to address this issue.”

“For me, it’s a second chance for us to sit down properly and see how we can get this budget passed; otherwise, people won’t get their salaries, and we won’t be able to spend on all of the areas where we can add value to the economy.”

His remarks follow Parliament’s rejection of the 2022 budget presented to the House by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Despite the fact that the Majority was not present to participate in the exercise, the Speaker stated that their absence would not prevent the House from carrying out its business for the day.

However, the agitated NPP MPs believe that the budget has not been constitutionally rejected by Parliament.
