Soumeylou Boubèye Maga, the imprisoned former Malian Prime Minister, has been admitted to a hospital in Bamako after his health deteriorated.
“A potentially serious infection was detected on the ex-minister last week,” according to his family.
The supreme court of Mali denied Mr Maga’s lawyers’ request for his provisional release this week.
To justify their request for his provisional release, the lawyers cited his health and detention conditions.
Mr Maga was arrested at the end of August in connection with the purchase of military equipment and a plane by former President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
His trial date has not yet been set.
