Rwandan YouTuber jailed for humiliating officials

A Rwandan YouTube star who criticized the government has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Dieudonné Niyonsenga, also known as Cyuma or “Iron,” was found guilty of forgery, impersonation, and humiliation of government officials.

He denies the allegations and has stated that he will file an appeal.

During a coronavirus lockdown, his videos accused soldiers of committing serious abuses against slum dwellers.

Another well-known YouTuber was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison for incitement of violence.
