UN condemns the killing of Togolese peacekeepers in Mali

Minusma, the head of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Mali, has condemned the killing of seven soldiers in an attack on a convoy in which they were traveling.

It was a “cowardly attack,” according to El-Ghassim Wane.

An improvised explosive device struck the UN convoy in central Mali’s Bandiagara region.

Togolese troops were killed.

From the West African regional bloc Ecowas, Togo is the second largest contributor of troops to Minusma.

In the course of this mission, the country has lost several soldiers in recent years.

According to Minusma, the latest attack involving improvised explosive devices is a stark reminder that efforts to stabilize central Mali must be stepped up.
